ENGLISH DOGS= (('98 - All The Worlds A Rage))

English Dogs formed in October 1981 in Grantham and produced two demos during 1982 entitled 'Show No Mercy' and 'Free To Kill'. The band toured as support to fellow punk band Charged GBH in Germany during early 1983 and followed this with a British tour supporting Discharge. In 1983 they signed to Clay Records and released a 6 track EP titled 'Mad Punx And English Dogs' July 1983.
English Dogs' first full length album, 'Invasion of the Porky Men', emerged a year later. Personnel changes ensued after the debut album emerged with vocalist Wakey departing to be replaced by ex-Ultraviolent singer Ade Bailey. At this juncture the band also decided to augment their live and recorded sound by adding ex-Destructors guitarist Graham 'Gizz' Butt who added Metal riffing, guitar leads and contributed to the English Dogs songwriting.
This change saw them leave Clay records to sign with Rot Records and release the decidedly metal tinged 'To The Ends Of The Earth' EP in September 1984. The metal leanings increased with Forward into Battle. English Dogs, culminating with the "Metalmorphosis " 12" and 'Where Legend Began' album through Under One Flag in 1986. In Spring of that that year the Dogs toured the USA to sold out shows at the LA Olympc auditorium, Fenders Ballroom, San Diego, San Francisco, Baltimore, New York, Chicago, in fact all over the East and West coast. Upon their return to the UK Jon Murray left the band. The group appeared on the legendary Shades promoted Thrash bill at Camden's Electric Ballroom with Possessed and Voivod later in 1986. Pinch also left the band around Winter '96. . The band carried on with Adie, Gizz and Wattie playing with other musicians until calling it a day in the fall of that year.

RAW POWER= (('85, Wop Hour))

Raw Power was formed in 1981 by Mauro and Giuseppe Codeluppi (voice and guitar). Since the beginning the band had great troubles finding a stable line-up. As a matter of fact, the only two members still in the band in the 90's from the original line-up were the two founders-brothers. The vinyl debut "You Are My Victim" was released in 1983 through a small independent Italian label. In 1983 the band signed a deal with American indie-punk label Toxic Shock (Skin Yard, House Of Large Sizes...). "Screams From The Gutter" (Toxic Shock 1985) was most likely their best album so far.
A rough mixture of seminal punk and sharp hard core. The same year the band flew over to the States for their first US tour (and have since then returned to tour the USA a total of six times). The reaction to the "Italian punk rockers" was great all around the States, and the album sold more than 40.000 copies strictly through independent distribution and shops.

NEUROSIS= [1999] Times Of Grace

After ten years and five albums of groundbreaking progressive death metal, Neurosis have managed to carve a highly original niche for themselves...coming off somewhat like a Tool for extremists. Yeah, you heard right. But while this Oakland bunch deserve great kudos for such unwavering commitment to their vision, they seem fated to remain confined to well-kept secret status for remaining so stubbornly inaccessible. 1999's Times of Grace adds another chapter to this ongoing dilemma by delving ever deeper into the group's hypnotic semi-industrial dirge. But whereas previous efforts tended to suffer from erratic songwriting and uneven pacing, many tracks taking painfully long to build towards their crescendos, this album offers the most seamless continuity of any album in the band's challenging discography. Transition pieces like "Exist" and "Descent" are confined to separate musical interludes, allowing central pieces like "End of the Harvest," "Under the Surface," and "Away" to be hammered out with more efficiency and power. Now don't be fooled. There is no in-between with Neurosis -- either you love them or you hate them, so approach with caution. With time and patience, Times of Grace may prove one of the group's most satisfying works for long-time converts, but it will most likely seem too exhausting to the uninitiated.

NEUROSIS= [1994] Enemy of The Sun

In retrospect, pitch-black goth/tribal/metal noise apocalypses shot through with found sound samples would become a common enough thing, at least if one lived with Godspeed You Black Emperor! fans. But in 1993, Neurosis, and in a different but related way Swans, were practically on their own, and on Enemy of the Sun Neurosis built upon the reach and power of Souls at Zero to create another masterpiece of
on-the-edge, high-volume rampage that resists easy genre classification. Consisting of eight songs, for the most part again constructed with the deliberate arrangements familiar from the earlier album, Enemy of the Sun once more finds the common ground between a variety of approaches, whether it be rough-voiced grindcore (there's a definite Godflesh jones more than once) or operatic chant/synth mixes. More than once the rhythm section takes a certain stage without having to spell it out -- the frenetic work on the title track, especially by Jason Roeder as lead drummer, is truly fierce. Sometimes the shift between extremes can be, well, extreme -- witness "Raze the Stray" suddenly changing the volume level from one to ten -- but note as well how the opening piano can still be heard amidst the full feedback chaos, a sign that the band knows exactly what they are doing. The use of contextual samples once again shows its effectiveness, notably with the news report regarding a notorious Vietnam War-era incident that
makes up most of "Burning Flesh in Year of Pig." A couple of more straightforward songs here and there like "Cold Ascending" get made up for easily with the concluding monster, "Cleanse." With tribal percussion provided by both bandmembers and guests, including general noise rock guru Mason Jones, its combination of drums, vocal snippets, and didgeridoo makes for a mystical, unnerving half-hour conclusion.

CRASS = ]1981 - Penis Envy[

Libertine takes the lead vocals throughout Crass' third album (the one exception being de Vivre's turn on the unnerving portrayal of hospitals and waiting for death, "Health Surface"). A powerful and challenging record, Penis Envy uses the brutal, cruel description of sexism and rape on the opening track, "Bata Motel," as a launching point for a comprehensive rip through societal control and repression throughout. Smart enough to target everything from the mechanics and business of selling romance ("Smother Love") to gender stereotyping ("Systematic Death") and back again, lyrically the sharpest cut is toward those who choose to accept such a system rather than reacting back against it. Libertine's delivery places her as one of punk and post-punk's most distinct vocalists; if her atypical approach to singing has parallels to everyone from Poly Styrene to Pauline Murray, she consciously avoids sugaring the pill as the album continues on its way. One of her finest moments comes on "Where Next Columbus," a smart, blackly humorous riff on notions of discovery and control, on every level from economic and political to personal and back again. If immediate musical variety isn't as evident on Penis Envy as on Stations of the Crass' studio cuts, more than a few twists and turns are evident. There's the sudden burst of noise and layered series of voices on the environmental lament "What the Fuck," the nervous crawl into aggro charge on "Poison in a Pretty Pill," even a pretty little guitar figure to start off "Berkertex Bride." Phil Free's lead guitar work is especially effective, often a trebly white sheet of electric aggression, while Penny Rimbaud's drumming gets more varied and interesting as well. Crass' always blunt cover art reaches new but gut-wrenching heights as well, featuring a prepackaged sex doll on the front and gutted pigs on the back. The conceptual effort closes with "Our Wedding," an intentionally sappy romantic number done for a mainstream magazine as a prank.-- Ned Raggett

ANTI-CIMEX = ][1990] Absolut Country of Sweden[

Anti Cimex were a Swedish hardcore punk band, based in Skövde, Göteborg, Linköping, and Malmö, at different times, that formed in 1981. They were one of the first bands to define Scandinavian hardcore punk. Their second 7", Raped Ass, is considered to be a subgenre-defining D-beat record. Scene historian Peter Jandreus describes the group as the most famous Swedish punk band of the 1977-87 era. Their name is taken from the Swedish pest control company with the same name, the name of this company, in turn, comes from the Latin name of a particular type of bedbug; Cimex.

ABRASIVE WHEELS: [1981] Vicious Circle [EP]

Abrasive Wheels specialised in the sort of massive rowdy choruses that could put an ear-to-ear smile on the face of a dead man. Like so many of those intense bands of the time, 1980/84 their fire burnt brightly for just a relatively short time, but the shadows it cast, and the colourful musical legacy they bestowed on the punk scene, were both important and influential to many a band that came after them. The band reformed in 2003 and has been playing shows in the UK,Europe, Canada, USA.The Abrasive Wheels’ first release for Riot City was the fast ‘n’ furious three-track ‘Vicious Circle’ EP in early 1982, and, encouraged by its success (it spent three months in the Indie charts and reached No. 12), the label re-released ‘Army Song’, this time on red vinyl, two months later. The band also contributed the storming ‘Criminal Youth’ to Riot City’s showcase 1982 compilation album ‘Riotous Assembly’. Thanks to the vitriolic strength of these early releases, the band started to build a large and loyal following of punks and skins the length and breadth of the country.

THUMB: [1998] Exposure

With their roots firmly placed in hardcore punk, the German-based quintet of Thumb got together in 1993. Originally consisting of Claus Grabke (vocals), Jan Hendrik Meyer (bass), Axel Hilgenstoehler (guitar), and Steffen Wilmking (drums), Jens Goessling (turntables) was eventually added to the lineup for his contribution of sampling techniques, rather than turning the band into a metal/hip-hop cliché. After self-releasing their first album in 1995, their follow-up full-length Exposure came out exclusively in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 1996. Victory Records eventually re-released the album to the States the following year.

D.O.A.: [1985] Let's Wreck The Party

This is a big return from D.O.A., but it's also going to be an adjustment for older fans to get into, and many will likely find it not worth the effort. A mild surprise, they've traded straight-ahead punk for punk-edged, big time rock, the kind they alone are capable of, and they can really spit the juices out of these live. It's real good in places, though your tolerance for AOR radio rock, even the good kind, might be limited -- though the references for this run closer to Bachman-Turner Overdrive (whom D.O.A. has covered live) and Steppenwolf (likewise, in a side band), or the Guess Who and Grand Funk Railroad. Still, if you’ve come looking for "I'm Right You’re Wrong" or "The Enemy," let alone "001 Losers Club," you won't find it here. This band has moved on a little ways from the alternative scene -- strange, not only for them, but this label -- and they're quite great at it, so now it's only a matter of your tolerance/taste.

trACks: Our World = Dangerman = Race Riot = Singin' in The Rain = Dance O'Death = General Strike = Let's Wreck The Party = Shout Out = Murder in Hollywood = The Warrior Ain't No More = No Way Out = Trial By Media.

CONDEMNED 84: [1999] Blood On Yer Face

Formed in the Autumn of 1980 as Criminal Tendencies, after three years the band changed their name to Condemned. The 84 moniker was added a year later, coinciding with the release of their first demo tape. Between 1984-87 over 90 gigs were played mainly in the U.K.
During 1986 various LP's / E.P.'s were released, with the debut mini lp Battle Scarred reaching No 21 in the National Independent Album chart, the follow up Oi! Ain't Dead E.P. reached No 18 in the U.K. Independent singles chart.

trACks: Justice = Sell Out = Government Holiday = Fuck You = They Think It's All Over = Right To Fight = Have A Go Hero = Give 'em Life = This Is Our World = Victim = The Flame Won't Die = Tell The Truth = Violence.

D.I.: Surfin' Anarchy [Single]

The Orange County punk project D.I. formed in 1982 by vocalist Casey Royer while his former band Adolescents was temporarily on hiatus. The group saw some success reach its peak in the mid and late 1980's, and their second album, "Horse Bites, Dog Cries" is now considered a hardcore punk classic. Despite going on hiatus between albums, the band has continued to be active. However, tragedy struck in March 2011 when their singer Casey Royer got arrested for overdosing on heroin while watching television with his 12 year old son. As of April 2011, he has been sentenced to a 90-day jail term and placed on probation for three years. Despite his arrest, D.I. is still together.

THE KNACK: [2002] Live From the Rock'n' Roll Funhouse

This crisp concert set documents just how important the Knack were in the evolution of millennial guitar pop music. With yet another new drummer laying down the beat, the original members who comprise the rest of the lineup tear through their hook-riddled, bite-size songs with a freshness and frenzy that's astonishing for -- here it comes -- guys this age. Their singing is especially adolescent: thin, quivery in the upper register, and electric with teenaged angst. There's not a note that sounds moldy, not a whine in the vocal line that betrays Fieger's longevity. When they hit the "love is the answer" lyric on "One Day at a Time," their naïve passion is totally convincing. Frankly, it's almost a little weird, as if, to borrow from Dorian Gray, they had their old masters hanging in an attic. More important, it's also an affirmation that in razor-edged pop, as in life, spirit can transcend flesh after all -- except, judging from the last track, when trying to cover a Jim Morrison vocal.by Robert L. Doerschuk

trACks: Pop Is Dead = Baby Talks Dirty = Oh Tara = CAn I Borrow A Kiss = Another Lousy Day In Paradise = Good Girls Don't = One Day At A Time = Siamese Twins (The Money And Me) = Harder On You = Sweet Dreams = That's What The Little Girls Do = (She's So) Selfish = My Sharona = (Havin' A) Rave Up = Tequila Break On Through (to The Other Side).

VA: The British Punkinvasion Volume 1 [Re-Up]

About Destination Venus --- These guys were the shooting stars from "The British Punk Invasion - Vol.1" sampler which led to a contract with the SMOKIN' TROLL
label for their debut. Their recent line-up change has taken them to a five piece band with the addition of a rhythm guitar to add more energy. Too rough for pop punk - too melodic for street punk.
@@@@@@@@@@
About Apocalypse Babys --- 'Birth of the Babys' - 1990, South Normanton, a small town on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border famous for being a small town on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border, or as many have put it, "A good place to move out of". It is here that a young Asterix The Brat decides he wants to be a punk rock star, he searches for talented musicians, unable to find any, he asks a gang of local drunkards thieves and drop outs if they would like to become Apocalypse Babys? "You fuckin' wot?.. they reply! - And so begins 15 years of anarchy, chaos and general mischief! - Yes from Scotland to Cornwall these terrors have been corrupting the nations youth with their punk rock filth and flying the flag throughout Europe for over 15 years now! They..ve been held by the terrorist squad in Italy, insulted the food in France, drank Belgium dry and left the women of Holland bo- legged! - Apocalypse Babys have played gay bars, strip joints, biker rallies and nazi gatherings? They..ve been attacked, slung out, arrested and banned - They..re one of punk rock..s best-kept secrets. Shunned by certain sections of the scene whilst gaining plaudits from others. They..ve outlived nearly every Brit punk band formed in the unfashionable early 1990..s and are still out there, ..forgotten.. but not gone..! - We are the Apocalypse Babys..who the fuck are you?

About Mere Dead Men --- Mere Dead Men formed in 1985, by a handful of people, Mandy included to liven up a small and very sad punk scene. Liverpool and it's surrounding areas where caught up in the throes of the metal and goth movements, there were hardly any punk bands of their type left, yes Pek we know you were busy with the hardcore scene and we have been sadly misquoted on that!!, there were a few hardcore bands around and anarcho bands, but as we said no-one was keeping the original spirit of punk alive, which is what MDM are all about. We began playing locally and promoting gigs at Stairways night club, we then started using some of Mandy's old Iconoclasts contacts, yes Mr Harper, you were a great help and still are, and started playing around the UK. From that we went on to promote shows at Planet X in Liverpool, and started to get a decent following together. Rag joined us on Drums in 1988 and also for a short while we had Hocky from Instant Agony sharing the vocals with Mandy. Ha we entered a talent competition at around this time and boy was it a laugh, we won.....a support slot to the Rock Band Little Angels, that was so funny, the audience didn't know what the hell we were!!!!

THE HENTCHMEN: [1996] Campus Party

Formed in October of 1992, the Hentchmen were one of the most popular live acts in lower Michigan throughout the '90s. Featuring organist/vocalist Johnny Volare, guitarist Tim V. Eight, and drummer Chris Handyside, the band performed a primitive garage band sound that utilized few instruments and referenced their heroes in '60s music. They began performing around Ann Arbor and Detroit, gaining a small but rabid fanbase. They released their eponymous debut and produced several indie singles, eventually scoring a contract with Norton Records in New York City. "The Hentch" began touring nationally, keeping their home base in Michigan while seeing the rest of the country. They released another album before Handyside was gone, replaced by drummer Mike Audi. With Audi on board they recorded Broad Appeal and Motorvatin', both popular local hits that never quite branched out into larger exposure. Still, one didn't need to pity the Hentchmen. They'd been at it for almost a decade, and had toured ten times more than your average garage rock slickers. In other words, those in the know already knew. In 2003, Norton issued the Three Times Infinity LP to critical and local acclaim; a year later, the band debuted on the Times Beach imprint with Form Follows Function. Italy released Hentch.Forth.Five, a collection of early works, in 2007. ~~ Bradley Torreano
